Hewson Tuxworth was born in 1856 in North Somercotes, Lincolnshire, the son of William Tuxworth and Elizabeth (née Lingard). He married Annie Pattern in 1885 and there are eleven known children. He died in 1941 in Mengha, Tasmania, Australia.
Relation to Head of House: Boarder; Occupation: Railway Rullyman. Lodging with William Pattern and family, George would later marry William’s cousin Annie Pattern.
Our story continues with the family of Michael and Rosanna. Annie, in service with a family at Gainsborough, journeyed by train to Hull to visit her cousin, William Pattern and his wife Charity. It was there that she met their lodger, a young man called Hewson Tuxworth. He was born in 1856 being the seventh child of William and Elizabeth Tuxworth who lived all their lives at North Somercotes, North Lincolnshire. Hewson was employed by William Pattern as a railway rullyman.
It was sometime after 1881 that Hewson Tuxworth left the employ of William Pattern and decided to emigrate to Tasmania. In 1885 he made application for Annie to join him and she sailed on SS Liguria from London port on 16th September 1885 arriving at Launceston, Tasmania on 3th November 1885. Seven days later, on the 10th November, Annie and Hewson were married at Chalmer’s Manse, Launceston.
Addison Hills and Ruth (née Tuxworth) seated
Annie and Hewson were to have eleven children — George, John, Jesse, a stillborn baby, Agnes, Rose, Annie, Ruth, William, Harry and Robert. Hewson and Annie both died in 1941. Their daughter Ruth married a Addison Hills, and we know that both Ruth like her mother Annie kept in touch with our grand-father and indeed with his two brothers, Robert and Matthew at Worthing. The daughter of Addison and Ruth Hills, Beryl, recently came over to the U.K. to meet members of the Tuxworth and Pattern family, including Pat at Heath and Reach. The grand-daughter of Addison and Ruth, Lynn provided me with information of relatives “down under” and said she possessed a cutting from the Lincolnshire Free Press sent by our grandfather to her grandmother, Ruth, with text and photograph of me at my farewell presentation before leaving for theological college in 1955. I had forgotten that my farewell present from the staff of the Spalding Guardian was an electric razor! From a photograph Pat had passed on to me, I was able to let Lynn have a photograph copy of herself at the age of 16 years alongside her grandparents, Ruth and Addison Hills.

TUXWORTH. – On August 28, at his residence, Mengha, Hewson, beloved husband of the late Annie Tuxworth, aged 84 years. At rest.
TUXWORTH. – The funeral of the late Mr. Hewson Tuxworth is appointed to leave his late residence, Mengha, THIS DAY (Friday, August 29), at 2.30 p.m., for interment in the Brethren Cemetery, Forest. – J. A. Billing, Undertaker, Smithton.

The funeral of the late Mr. Hewson Tuxworth, who died at Mengha on Tuesday last, took place at the Forest, public cemetery on Friday, and was largely attended.
Mr. Tuxworth was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1856. He came to Tasmania in the eighties, and lived for some time at Barrington. For the last 30 years he had resided in the Circular Head district. Of quiet disposition, he was a keen reader and lover of his home and garden. He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Annie Tuxworth, who died on July 20 last at Mengha.
He leaves five sons and two daughters, also a sister, Miss Elizabeth Tuxworth, who for many years lived with her brother.

Mr. Tuxworth was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1856. He came to Tasmania in the Eighties and was for some time at Barrington. For the last 30 years he had resided in the Circular Head district. Of a quiet disposition, Mr. Tuxworth was a keen reader and lover of his home and garden. Mrs. Tuxworth died on the 26th July at Mengha. Five sons and two daughters mourn their loss, also Miss Elizabeth Tuxworth, who for many years has lived with her brother.
