Albert Leonard Pattern was born in 1901 in Threekingham, Lincolnshire, the son of Albert Edward Pattern and Mary Jane (née Eudale). He married Gladys Beatrice Overson in 1925 and there are six known children. He died in 1968 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

30 SHOW AWARDS FOR SUTTON EXPERT
Mr. A. L. Pattern, of Long Sutton, who gained over thirty awards in the vegetable and fruit classes in the horticultural section of Sleaford Show, on Monday, was awarded the Association’s silver challenge cup and replica for the highest number of points in open classes.
In the vegetable classes he won twelve awards (four firsts, five seconds and three thirds) and twenty awards in the fruit classes (seven firsts, seven seconds and six thirds).
Awards in the vegetable classes were: first, collection of salad vegetables, globe beet, long beet, cauliflowers; second, collection of vegetables, long carrots, cabbage, cauliflowers, turnips; third, long carrots, cabbage, marrows.
Awards in the fruit classes were: first, red currants, white currants, dessert gooseberries, dessert apples, cooking apples, tomatoes, collection of fruit; second, red currants, white currants, dessert gooseberries, cooking apples, any other fruit, cucumber, collection of fruit; third, black currants, raspberries, cherries, dessert apples, cucumbers; equal third, tomatoes.
