The Late Mr. A. P. Petch. — On Monday the funeral took place at Holbeach of Mr. Alfred Pooley Petch, of that town, who died on the previous Wednesday evening, after a long illness. Mr. Petch, who was in his 83rd year, was apprenticed to the engineering trade in his native town of Swaffham. While there he also managed to acquire a good experience of the business of moulding, and later he found employment in a foundry at Brandon. Mr. Petch, who had been married 63 years, settled at Holbeach in 1885. With part of his savings he bought a horse and trap, and began business as a hawker. Later he kept a posting-stable, but the advent of the motor-car reduced the number of his customers, and he decided to retire. He leaves a widow (aged 82) and seven sons and daughters: Mrs. Isaacson (Doncaster), Mrs. Dickson (Holbeach), Mrs. Judge (Long Sutton), Mr. Alfred Petch (Walpole), Mr. Herbert Petch (Holbeach), Messrs. William and W. C. Petch (Peterborough).

FUNERAL OF MR. PETCH. — The interment of Mr. Alfred Pooley Petch, whose death we recorded in our last issue, took place at the Holbeach Cemetery on Monday. It was preceded by a service in the United Methodist Church, conducted by the minister, the Rev. J. T. Hughes. Miss Thompson was at the organ, and the deceased’s favourite hymn, “Jesu, Lover of my Soul,”’ was sung. The family mourners were: Mrs. A. E. Petch, widow; Mr. and Mrs. Isaacson, son-in-law and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Judge (Long Sutton), son-in-law and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Dixon, son-in-law and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Petch (Peterborough), son and daughter-in-law; Mr. W. C. Petch (Peterborough), son; Mrs. W. C. Petch (Holbeach), daughter-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. H. Petch, son and daughter-in-law; Miss Gladys Petch, Miss Louie Petch, Mr. Cyril Petch, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Petch, junr., grandchildren. Among the others present were: Mrs. Maxey, Mrs. J. Watson, Coun. C. R. Thompson, Mr. H. Mashford, Mrs. W. R. Rossington, Mr W. Bennett, Mrs. Harrison (Peterborough). Among the many floral tributes were those from the following: A dear loving husband, from his broken-hearted wife; Tilly and George (Doncaster); Louie and Chris; Bertie and Arthur (Long Sutton); Herbert and family (Stukeley Road); and Ethel (Peterborough); Dorothy and Will (Doncaster); Gladys; Ethel, Louie and Cyril (Church Street); Roy, Eric and Evelyn; Harry Woolsey (London); Mr. and Mrs. Wignall; Mrs. Pettitt (Albert Street); Mr. and Mrs. Chapman and Jean (Sutton Bridge); Mr. Bennett and Mr. and Mrs. […?]ker; Mr. and Mrs. Pettitt (Cemetery Lodge); Miss Dobson and Miss […?]kle. The coffin was of unpolished oak and bore the inscription: “Alfred Pooley Petch; Died 14th October, 1931; In his 84th year.”
