Research Notes
The Matilda mentioned in the 1877 article is presumably widow Matilda Mutimer (1816-1881) but there are other “Matilda Petch”s in the family tree.

Solicitor to the Executor.
Matilda Petch, of Swaffham, was summoned by Edward Charles Johnson, for refusing to deliver up possession of a cottage in her occupation, after having received a notice to quit, expiring on October 11th. The cottage was left by the late Pooley Petch, to the wife of complainant, and it is alleged by defendant that she used to occupy the cottage, rent free, during Mr. Petch’s life time, and that she was to continue so to live for her lifetime likewise. Complainant produced probate of the will of Mr. Petch, showing that the tenement had been devised to his wife without any reservation in favour of defendant, and the Bench ordered defendant to give up possession.
