Miles Pattern was born in 1894 in Chapeltown, Leeds, Yorkshire, the son of Miles Pattern and Sarah (née Chapman). He married Edith May Moss in 1936 and there is one known child. He died in 1959 in Welling, Kent.
Miles served in the Royal Navy from 6 January 1912 for a period of twelve years (service number J7985).
The gravestone of Miles and Edith May is in Bexleyheath Cemetery, Kent (now part of Greater London).
