Pte. Ed. Pattern (22), Hull Commercials, who was killed in action in France on August 1st. He was the fifth son of William and Charity Pattern, and his home was at 46 Goodwin Street. Before joining the army in September, 1914, he was employed in the office of the Gourock Ropework Co. He was connected with Thornton Hall, a local preacher, and well known in the Withernsea district.

Edward is buried at St. Vaast Post Military Cemetery, Richebourg-L’avoue, France, and he is memorialised on his parents’ gravestone at Western Cemetery, Hull.
