Enlisted in the Duke Of Cornwall’s Light Infantry during WW1 (service number 28197) was but soon discharged on the grounds of “not being likely to become an efficient soldier” under King’s Regulations Paragraph 392 due to a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis.
